
Elaine McMahon
Elaine McMahon is a Consultant Neonatal and Neurodevelopmental Occupational Therapist.
She currently works within the Neonatology service at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI), Dublin, supporting infants and families with complex medical and surgical needs.
Before relocating to Ireland, Elaine led the Neonatal and Neurodevelopmental Service at the Royal Free Hospital in London and held an Honorary Consultant post at University College Hospital London.
Elaine has a specialist interest in neurobehaviour and relationship-based care and is a lecturer for the Brazelton Centre UK. She is a member of the British Association of Neonatal and Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up (BANNFU) special interest group and is an advanced practitioner in the Prechtl General Movements Assessment. She is also certified in Neonatal Therapy Massage Touch (NTMTC).
Elaine is an Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner and completed an MSc in Sensory Integration in 2022, with a focus on early intervention for high-risk infants from birth to three months.
She is a committee member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) Neonatal Forum and was part of the core team responsible for updating the RCOT neonatal guidelines, Occupational Therapy in Neonatal Services and Early Intervention, published in September 2022.
Elaine is passionate about early intervention and is committed to embedding the principles of Ei SMART in clinical practice to optimise outcomes for the infants and families she supports.
