Dr Anna Purna Basu

Clinical Senior Lecturer, Newcastle University & Honorary Consultant Paediatric Neurologist, Great North Childrens Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. Dr Basu trained in medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities and then in paediatric neurology in Newcastle.

Dr Basu completed a PhD assessing cortical plasticity following early brain lesions. Following an NIHR Clinical Trials Fellowship she was awarded an NIHR Career Development Fellowship around early intervention in perinatal stroke (stroke occurring before or shortly after birth). Her research aims to improve motor outcomes for children with hemiplegia and following perinatal stroke; this includes improving early detection for early intervention.
